My Luteal Phase Was 20 Days Answers
BFN at 14dpo with short luteal phase too early to test?
Q. Ok here is my situation: I temp my bbt so i know that i am currently 15dpo. I ovulated early this month (cd 20 instead of cd28) and i usually have a 12 day luteal phase. Current symptoms are sore nipples which has now turned into sore breasts, feeling sick all the time goes away a little when i eat something, feeling tired and waking up hot during the night but freezing in the morning and higher then normal temps. My questions are: If i ovulated early could this mean my luteal phase is going to be longer (currently 15dpo with no AF)? If I am pregnant could it take longer to show up on a hpt with a short luteal phase (even though i used FRER)? I thought it might take longer to get a positive with a short luteal phase compared to someone… [cont.]

A. I am not sure your luteal phase has anything to do with the pregnancy test. Test again in two days if no AF. If negative, schedule an appointment with doc. Sounds promising-good luck to you! Edit: I don't see why it would take longer. The tests measure HCG, which increases after the egg implants. That has nothing to do with your luteal phase.

2 chemical pregnancies in a row, Short Luteal phase? Is there a way to cure this?
Q. I'm 20 years old. Gravida 4 para 1 .. my last two pregnancies were chemical, ending before the fertilised egg could implant. Why is the egg not implaniting? My cycle is around 21-28 days long. So I'mguessing my Luteal phase is too short? Yet my ovulation sticks have been positive for over 2 weeks!!!? Please help suggest? I'm going to the Doctors tommorow, but I hardly see him taking me seriously TTC at 20. However, my first is 14 months, Ive always wanted children with a small age difference and feel this is proving impossible? Working on the Labour suite is starting to depress me. Well i thought i was pregnant 2 weeks ago, as I had +tive tests... then 4 days later the tests all turned -tive

Yet another question about pregnancy tests. How lovely. Help please?
Q. I had a miscarriage June 8th. My next period came on July 13th lasted till the 17th. My ovulation test says I ovulated on cycle day 17-19 we b'danced enough to get pregnant. But here is the thing. My cycles before I got pregnant were 32 days. follicular phase was around 14 and my luteal phase was usually 18-20 or a bit less. Well this cycle my follicular phase was 17 and I am in my 15th luteal day right now. That makes 32 days. I took a test 12DPO negative. and I just took one of the dollar tree tests. First line on the directions "The first morning urine is highly recommended but not required" I took it at 9:30 at night. I know my urine was diluted b/c it was almost clear. But the tests is sensitive to 25m IU/m L. So should I… [cont.]

A. After I lost my baby in February, my body did all sorts of weird stuff. I used to have 28 day cycle every month. Ever since February, I am now on a 35 day cycle, so NO, it is not impossible to have longer cycles after a m/c. I think you should wait another week before testing. I convinced myself the 2 months after that I was pregnant, but I wasn't!!... still trying!! Good Luck

A. I think it's possible, some people have very weird cycles. But you might just not be ovulating when you think you are. Have you tried following the temperature instructions online to see when you are for real?

A. You definitely sound like you are probably pregnant. Sometimes it takes awhile for the hcg to show up in your urine. It took me YONKS to finally get a positive with my son. I honestly and truly gave up and then found myself pregnant after I felt ill. (Which ended up being morning sickness) I was 9 weeks pregnant before I got my results. So, hopefully that helps you. Sometimes you can be pregnant even with a negative. Best of luck to you! xxx

Luteal phase problem?
Q. Hi there TTC friends...I have been charting my last three cycles and noticing that my luteal phase is always 12 days, but I am spotting the last three days of them. Could this indicate a problem? Anyone have a similar problem? My cycles are 30-33 days, ovulating CD 18-20. I would appreciate any feedback! Thanks!

A. I have an 11 day luteal phase and spotted 2 days beforehand. I wouldn't worry too much. I think anything longer than 10 days is fine. When I got pregnant, my temp started dropping after my BFP and I freaked out, but all was fine. It went right back up and now I'm 27 weeks pregnant with a healthy little boy. Good luck!

A. You can go to fertilityfriend.com and look at charts from people who fell pregnant. I have come across several that have high temps and test and get negatives and then their temps drop and they test and get a positive. I would think that's the best thing to check out. I have never experienced this and i don't want to give you false hope, just thought it'd be helpful to look at.

How short of Luteal Phase should I be concerned for TTC?
Q. Hi, my menstrual cycle length started to chage. The doctor could not find what's wrong. They did blood work and said all my hormones plus my thyroids is ok. Also, the ultrasound of my pelvic is also ok. So, I am not sue what I should do next? Recently, my menstrual cycle length started to change, with very early in ovulation and shorter Luteal Phase, resulting in 18-20 days of cycle length. Would that be a concern for TTC? My receont Luteal PHase is 10 days, is that be too short? Thank you.

A. I've read that anything less than 12 days is a cause for concern. So if you are actually calculating correctly, then your Luteal Phase is too short. There are things you can do to increase it! Such as progesterone cream, and Vitamin B-6. Since you've already talked it over with your doctor and he/she cannot seem to find anything wrong, I suggest searching for a local Naturopathic/Homeopathic doctor. They're great with fertility, and can get straight to the source and fix it with natural herbs/vitamins/medicines. I visit one myself and I'm so glad I do, my Gyno overlooked many things that this doctor didn't. So visiting those doctors couldn't hurt, if anything they'll be able to help you conceive faster. Don't give up hope! You aren't 'incur [cont.]

Can luteal phase vary more than 3 days?
Q. I have searched the internet with this question and nothing quite seems to fit! Here's my situation: We are trying to get pregnant with our first child. I got off b.c. in January and immediately started charting my temps, with the following results: Feb: OV day 18, AF day 25 March: OV day 20, AF day 24 April: OV day 22, AF day 27 May: OV day 18...but no AF yet and it's now day 29. Couple things happening here: 1. I've had a short luteal phase (of 4-7 days!) before this month. 2. I had bloodwork on day 23 of this cycle to confirm that I was OV and had enough progesterone, which I do. 3. I have had no symptoms of anything - neither pregnancy nor AF - at all. 4. HPT taken yesterday (10dpo) was negative. 5. Suddenly my luteal phase is 11 days?… [cont.]

A. .This is an odd one.. the major diagnosis of a short LP is progesterone levels, yet yours are normal. Luteal phase defect is one of the factors which contribute towards potential pregnancy difficulties. The Luteal phase (or the post ovulation) is the cycle between a woman s ovulation time and the first day of menstrual bleeding, and it should be between 12-14 days. In comparison to ovulation, which can be delayed by several factors (stress, medication, unhealthy foods), luteal phase is usually constant. Luteal Phase Lenght When a Luteal phase is less than 10 days, pregnancy cannot be sustained because there is not enough progesterone being produced. Luteal phase defect could be defined as a failure of the uterine lining to be in the right… [cont.]

Does this mean my luteal phase is for sure 20? If so I ovulated on Nov 30 so should my period start today. Trying to understand beter to know when I would be considered late every month. Husband And I are again TTC thank my last period started Nov. 10

A. From your temps I'd think you O'ed on CD14. But with a OPK+ on CD 15 I'd count from CD15...hope that helps and good luck!

Short luteal phase?
Q. Ok...this is a lot of info but bear with me...I took birth control for 6 years and was having problems that the docs thought were endometriosis...they did a laparascopy and it turned out to be nothing physical but possibly hormonal...so about 6 weeks after my surgery I got pregnant! I then had an early miscarriage on January 14 and got my cycle back on February 21 and I used an OPK to see if i was ovulating normally...I got a + on cycle day 19 so I ovulated most likely on cycle day 20 and just got my period today...so i'm wondering if my luteal phase had something to do with my early miscarriage bc my doctor didn't say there was a reason or if maybe my luteal phase was just short bc it was my first full cycle...Does anyone have any… [cont.]

A. Okay, if I have your information right... your last period started Feb 21 and you got a + OPK 19 days later on March 10... probably O'd the next day, March 11...just got your period again today, 11 days later. Also, you could have ovulated 2 days after a positive OPK, which gives you an LP of 10 days. First, your LP is usually consistent from month to month. However, you shouldn't make assumptions about your LP until you've been tracking for 3 complete cycles. For all you know, this could have been an off month. With that said, 10-11 day LPs are on the short side. However, they may or may not be a problem. The only way to know is to test your progesterone level 7 days after ovulation. Your level at that time will tell your doctor 1) that… [cont.]

Please Help Me-Clomid and ovulation and luteal phase?
Q. I started Clomid this cycle. I took it starting cycle day 5 for 5 days. I am also charting my temperature. I haven't had a rise in temperature yet and I am on day 19. In previous months of charting before this month I always had my rise in temperature around day 16. I have on average 27-30 day cycles with 29 most common. I am confused as to if the Clomid is going to increase my cycle length now. I am clomid because I have a short luteal phase or not enough high temps before my period to sustain a pregnancy but clomid appears to be making my luteal phase even shorter. Because if I have a high temp tomorrow on day 20 and start my period even as late as day 30 that will only be10 days of high temps and my doctor said I need no less than 12… [cont.]

A. Hi.. hopefully this helps.. Ive used Clomid starting on day 5 through my regular ob/gyn when 2 months of that shortened my periods and my luteal phase and the one fillicle I produced was very small, I went to a reproductive endocrinologist. At the fertility specialist, they told me that they see better results when Clomid is taken at 100mg on days 3-7. I took one round of Clomid this way and I am pregnant. I have noticed that Clomid can cause ovulation to delay to days 15-18, but unfortunately the later you take and the later you ovulate, the less likely your chances of conceiving because of the luteal phase and drop in progesterone at that point in your cycle. I love my ob/gyn ad he is caring for me now that I am pregnant and will deliver… [cont.]

A. I think you missed it...Your temp should drop dramatically the day before you ovulate...after you ovulate your temp will rise again and should be higher than normal for you...it will remain high if you are prego...if your not it will start to drop right before your period is expected

Can Clomid help with a Luteal Phase Defect?
Q. Hello, my husband and I have been ttc for over a year with out 2nd child and after several tests we determined that I have a Luteal Phase defect and am ovulating on day 20 or so. My doctor wants to put me on clomid which is ok with me but I am just wondering success stories with people who had a LPD and used Clomid to get pregnant and how many rounds of clomid it took, Thank You!!!

A. I have actually never heard of clomid helping with a LPD. I have read about different types of Vit B being able to help, but I have never heard about clomid helping with that.

Luteal phase and ovulation for 35 day cycle?
Q. My cycles are 32-35 day. Last month it was 35 and my luteal phase was atleast 15 days. We baby danced on day 21 of cycle with no luck, too late. This month we baby danced on day 14, and my period isn't due until April 4th. Do you think there is a good chance that would could have conceived? We aren't trying to hard just if it happens it happens, so I am not measuring CM or temping. By my calculations I could have ovulated between day 14-20, so within that week.

A. Hi Kristine, you ovulate a couple of days either side of 14 days before your next period. I'll base all this on a average of 33 and you can adjust it. If I'm right you will have ovulated around cycle day 19, cd 14 may have been too early. I know if it happens it happens and I hope it does for you in April, if by chance it doesn't having sex 2/3 days before ovulation is optimum as sperm can live up to 5 days, therefore giving a higher percent of chance catching the lh surge. The very best of luck either way.

question about luteal phase?
Q. i have a 35 day cycle. i think i ovulated at/around day 16 this month (used an OPK, and day 16 was the first day i ever tried it, and looking back after having tested for 4 days after that, i think it was positive on that day only) and also my CM was more wet/slippery. But, this would make my luteal phase longer than the typical woman. i'm pretty sure my cycles are consistently 35 days ( been tracking since Nov when i lost a pregnancy). i keep seeing on Y/A that the luteal phase is 14 days. i think mine is about 19-20. what does this mean? does it hurt my chances of TTC? thanks in advance for any info. This whole TTC and OPK is new to me.

A. If you got a positive OPK on day 16, it could have been up to day 18 before you actually ovulated, so that could make it about a 17 day luteal phase. It is the "norm" to have a 14 day luteal phase, but just like the length of a womans cycle (28 is the norm, but yours is 35), it varies, usually, just slightly. Unless you have luteal phase that is too short, you should not have trouble trying to conceive.
