How are signs of getting your period different from signs of pregnancy?
Q. My girlfriend is getting signs that she usually gets when she is about to get her period. These signs feel exactly the same as when she gets her period. Her period has come late but that might be due to stress and the Emergency Contraceptive pills she took about 5 weeks ago. Are there any special signs that she might be pregnant other than ones similar to getting her period.

A. Let her go ahead and take a test to just make sure it will ease your worries

How do i get my period stopped after having a tubal ligation?
Q. I had my tubes tied about 5 years ago. Since then i have had periods every 2 to 3 weeks, it varies. I have no schedule to my period, which makes it hard to plan intimate activities. I am getting married in a few months and would like to know that i am not going to be on my period, on the wedding date. So how do i get my period stopped? I assume that i cannot take BC pills, since i have had a tubal. I am 34, smoke, and have family history of stroke and heart attack.

A. Unfortuantely the only way to stop it is to use hormones such as BCpills. Your risk factors are really high really making that not an option. Talk to your physician about this. There may be new stuff on the market that could help. Good luck!

Will my period end sooner if I start my next pack of birth control instead of taking the placebos?
Q. I have been on birth control for a while. It got kinda messed up recently. After four days of taking placebos, and I didn't get my period, I decided to start a new pack of active pills yesterday, being Monday, and then got my period. I am planning on being on the beach Friday and I was wondering if because I started the new pack of pills if my period would end sooner than normal.

A. It is unlikely, how every you might of messed up your period for the next month. The hormones in BC will not alter the flow of you period, they are unrelated.

A. Ah, congratulations on entering the world of horrid womanliness. 0_0. Tips? DON'T drink caffeine! Don't ingest caffeine. Don't have anything to do with caffeine. Except chocolate. But don't over-do it. Ingesting caffeine is proven to make cramps wayyy worse than you'd ever want them! I'd suggest getting a nice bottle of Midol or Pamprin. They get rid of bloating, cramps, and fatigue. Among other things. Menstrual calendar? At first your menstrual periods will be irregular, so you'll just have to wait and see when your menstruations will be. When you start to get cranky, crave chocolate, feel bloated, and feel kind of tired; I'd say that's a clear sign that you're getting your period. Changing pads? What if my period ends before I am supposed to start birth control?
Q. I was prescribed a birth control for my first time and my doctor recommended I start my pill the Sunday after my period starts. I started yesterday (Wednesday) and my only concern is that sometimes I have short periods. If for some reason my period doesn't last all the way until Sunday, then what should I do?
Asked by - Thu Feb 11 14:35:56 2010 - Women's Health - 5 Answers - Comments
A. Call your dr and see what they want you to do. When I was on bc, they told me to go ahead and start them anyway and my cycles would accommodate starting the pills.

How long until your period is supposed to regulate?
Q. I've had my period for about 3 and a half years and it still is very irregular. The longest time between periods has been 2 months and the shortest time has been less than 14 days. I know when you first get your period it's supposed to be irregular, but I feel like 3 years is a really long time for it to still be this irregular. What should I do?/Would going on the pill help?

A. You can go to a GYN and get on birth control pills. That will regular your period and that's what I did when I was a teen.

A. from a female i have acquired the knowkedge that: if you're young it is quite normal for periods to be a bit irregular and erratic, if you can rule out pregnancy then there is really nothing to worry about. do not put tampons in unless you are on your period as this can induce toxic shock syndrome. can't you have a word with your mum, she may be sympathetic about allowing you to use tampons on holiday if it starts. but it is perfectly normal for periods to be a bit out on timing if you're young, try not to worry about it as getting stressed can delay periods. hope this helps.

Q. I am on birth control and my period hasnt come yet, I am normally down the the hour when i get it. This month it hasnt come yet, and I have taken a pregnancy test, it came out negative. Do I start my new month or do I wait until I get my period or a test says im pregnant?

A. How long have you been taking birth control? Your period will be out of whack for a few cycles if you have just started. You would start your new pack regardless of starting your period or not, you need to take the pills everyday on time so your period can regulate itself.

A. if you have a 28 day cycle then you ovulate around day 14, but as early as the 10th. count the first day you started your period (normal flow, spotting doesn't count) when you get to the 14th around that time. but it could be as early as the 10th day so day around that time. (this has worked for me three times) also pay attention to you cervical mucas (cm) or discharge, when it is runny like egg whites, kind of stringy. that is just before you ovulate so do the baby dance. good luck!!!

A. Any time you have sex you risk the chance of pregnancy. Its as simple as that really. No matter when the period is due, no matter what protection you use, you risk the chance of pregnancy any time you have sex. The ONLY 100% effective form of birth control is abstinence.

Will my period still start after taking one or two days of Provera?
Q. I'm posting in this forum because people posting here have had more experience with Provera, although it seems they are using it to regulate their periods for fertility reasons. I've been put on Provera (5 mg) for 7 days to delay my period because of an upcoming vacation. I feel bloated and think my period will start regardless of having taken my first pill today. If it does start, will the Provera stop it before my 7 days suppy is gone?

What is the quarantine period for my dog to and from the United States?
Q. I live in Hong Kong and I have a 11 month female Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. I am thinking about bringing her over to the state of California from Hong Kong for a short holiday. Will my 11 month puppy be quarantined in California once it reaches there and will she be quarantined again upon returning to Hong Kong? How long is the quarantine period? Some say that there is no quarantine period providing that all inoculation papers are in order. Others say there will be a six month period. Still others say to call the airline. What is the best answer? Who should I get in touch with?

A. Have you taken the time to look up any of the words or people? Do you know who Cesare Borgia was? Machiavelli thought Cesare was a cool guy. It is one thing to be able to answer a question, and quite another to understand what the answer means. Do you know the difference between a Democracy and a Monarchy? Do you know what an Oligarchy is? Some people say that the US is not really a democracy anymore, because there are only a few people who spend a lot of money to be elected to seats in the government. If you look up the words, you might understand better. That is what learning is all about. How do you expect to be able to think for yourself if you do not know what the words really mean? Good luck with your test/homework. Kay

A. You require proper Medical consultation. Periods and Bleeding .. irregular periods are also called periods by most of people .. There are many other factors which do effect such abnormalities. So best is to consult your family doctor and follow instructions advise for further check up.

What period of the year usually provides the best average stock market gains and why?
Q. A teacher of mine wanted us to answer these questions to the best of our ability in class but he hasn't gone over them yet. I am curious as to what the real statistical answers are though? Also if you could show me where you found the information I would love to read the whole thing. What period of the year usually provides the best average stock market gains and why? What period of the year usually provides the least average gains and why?

A. Sell in May and go away. The Dines Letter (TDL) by James Dines gives good statistics on seasonalities. I get it at my central library. Other places: honestly though, you might as well use the winners of the super bowl or the the length of hemlines or horrrorscopes. Better yet, just guess. Statistics are for the news media to report for the losers.
