The tongue is a muscular hydrostat on the floors of the mouths of most vertebrates which manipulates food for mastication. It is the primary organ of taste (gustation), as much of the upper surface of the tongue is covered in papillae and taste buds. It is sensitive and kept moist by saliva, and is richly supplied with nerves and blood vessels. In humans a secondary function of the tongue is phonetic articulation. The tongue also serves as a natural means of cleaning one's teeth. The ability to perceive different tastes is not localised in different parts of the tongue, as is widely believed. Q. Yesterday I was telling my mom that I want to get my cartilidge pierced, or my tongue pierced. She said cartlidge was okay, but there was no way I would be allowed to get my tongue pierced while I was living at home. The tongue piercing was the one I wanted most. I'm 20, technically I don't need her permission. But knowing her, if I do it she will find way to make my life miserable. I told her that it takes less time to heal, and that really no one can even see it unless you show them. I asked about a tattoo, and she said she thinks girls with tattoos look cheap and trashy.
